Confidence and Self-esteem

Do I Have Low Self-Esteem?

Sometime life events erode our self-esteem which in turn shakes our confidence and colours how we see and approach life.    By exploring our self-esteem issues and rethinking negative thought patterns we can begin to live life to the full.  So where does our loss of self-esteem start?  Our need for other’s approval in order to feel worthwhile can start early on in our lives and whilst all is well will cause us no obvious signs of distress.  But when we loose people, jobs, friendships etc. or come across others judgemental or irrational beliefs it can cause us to doubt our own self – to question who we are and our own abilities.   In turn we feel our self-worth/esteem  plummeting.  This then can become a self-defeating cycle of behaviour which can lead to lack of confidence, depression, addiction etc.

By the growth of the self-help books in any bookshop over recent years we can easily see that a lot of us have a pressing need to “find ourselves” in order to feel better about ourselves.   Such books are great when we are waivering on the edge of self-doubt but sometimes we can not always identify for ourselves what the missing “need” within ourselves is.

How To Improve Your Self-Esteem.

You may want to take our Self-Esteem Test for a better understanding of how low self-esteem might be affecting you.  The Self-Esteem Counsellinghelps you identify why you have lost (or never had) self-belief  and to work with you to learn new skills and to find the  internal resources to discover your own strengths.  In essence to “find yourself” and to be comfortable in your own skin.

I work with clients in a variety of ways including CBT and REBT (a similar form to CBT using rational thoughts to look at thinking patterns) and my counselling style is conversational and informative as you can see from my video on the home page.
